What Is the Norwood Scale?
The Norwood Scale is a standard classification system used to measure the stages of male pattern baldness. It helps identify the degree and pattern of hair loss, ranging from mild thinning to advanced baldness.
In the context of Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), the Norwood Scale is an essential tool that helps us:
- Assess the extent of your hair loss.
- Plan your SMP treatment with precision.
- Create a natural-looking hairline that suits your stage of hair loss.
Norwood Scale Stages:
Stage 1: No significant hair loss or recession of the hairline.
Stage 2: Slight recession around the temples.
Stage 3: Deeper recession at the temples, often forming an M shape.
Stage 4: More pronounced hairline recession and noticeable thinning at the crown.
Stage 5: Larger areas of hair loss at the front and crown, with a narrow band of hair in between.
Stage 6: The bridge of hair separating the front and crown is gone.
Stage 7: Most severe stage – only a band of hair around the sides and back of the head remains.
